Sun, 03/11/2012 - 06:54

It goes down as the worst season in CSU Bakersfield's 11-year history of women's basketball.

But Saturday's dramatic come-from-behind 89-87 win over Seattle University in the Icardo Center will be used as a springboard to the future, not the wrap up of a long season.

A path not far enough: Tehachapi Mountain trail ends abruptly, and controversially

Sun, 03/11/2012 - 06:30

NEAR TEHACHAPI PEAK -- Footprints in the snow made it pretty clear last week that someone continues to trespass on the Wyman family's land atop Tehachapi Mountain.

Ordinarily that might not raise an eyebrow. Hikers have long tramped through the property on their way to Tehachapi Peak, a nearly 8,000-foot summit said to offer sweeping views of the Mojave Desert, Central Valley and the southern Sierra Nevada.

March 9 fish report

Fri, 03/09/2012 - 03:37

Kern County, southern San Joaquin Valley

LAKE ISABELLA: The trout bite has been improving with some very nice catches of quality fish at the auxiliary dam for bait anglers fishing floating baits, Power Mice Tails, or inflated nightcrawlers. DFG plants this week and two weeks ago. Fly anglers are still reporting fair to good dry fly bite on midges in most coves in the mornings. Catfish are fair on frozen shad at Engineerís Point. Not a lot of big fish, but pretty fair numbers on fish around two or three pounds. Few reports on crappie, and the bass and bluegill action is also slow. The 23rd Annual Isabella Lake Fishing Derby will be held March 31-April 2 with over $250,000 in potential prize winnings.

Viewers might want to record the show--it'll be worth watching.
