E. Kenneth "Ziggy" Seigfried has been hired as CSUB's senior associate athletic director for development and major gifts.

Siegfried has served as the University of Memphis' director of development of the university's Fogleman College of Business and Economics for more than two years.

The SCGA's tournament season is about to get underway full swing as two of the more popular events will be conducting qualifying this month, with finals scheduled for April.

The 78th SCGA Amateur Net Championships will begin qualifying this week and according the SCGA website, our local amateur players will be competing at two courses: Sunset Hills CC in Thousand Oaks and Griffith Park GC in LA.

CSU Bakersfield head men's basketball coach Rod Barnes was named Independent Coach of the Year by CollegeSportsMadness.com.

The website, which awards all-conference and national honors each week for several collegiate sports, named Barnes 'Coach of the Year,' among the four NCAA Division I Independents for his 16-14 record in his first year with the Roadrunners. The three other independents, aside from CSUB, are Seattle, University of Nebraska-Omaha and Longwood (Va.).

Max Carter and Joey Skracic combined on a one-hitter and tournament MVP Erik Williams had three hits, including a triple, to lead Stockdale High to an 18-1 victory over North on Saturday in the championship game of the American Division of the Terrio Therapy Spring Classic baseball tournament at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

It was the fourth Terrio title of the past five years for Stockdale (4-1).

Pounds, the 2010 track champion, survived a caution-filled race after taking the lead on lap five, and held off Danny Lauer, who started on the pole.
