The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners had several key defensive stops down the stretch and held off Cal Poly 69-66 before 1,663 in the Icardo Center to snap a three-game losing streak.

SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco State snapped a 34- match losing streak dating to 1974 against CSU Bakersfield with a 20-16 win in wrestling Friday.

The Roadrunners (2-7) did not use two of their top wrestlers, 125-pound Tyler Iwamura and 133-pound Frank Lomas. But the CSUB replacements both won: Miguel Comparan beat Andrew Yu 5-3 at 125 and Jose Mendoza downed Julian Perez 10-2 at 133.

LAS CRUCES. N.M. -- Hot-shooting by New Mexico State combined with cold shooting by CSU Bakersfield led to a third-straight loss for the Roadrunners on Wednesday night in college basketball.

New Mexico State (16-7) made 14 of its 20 second-half shots (70 percent) and shot 55 percent for the game on the way to a 78-57 victory on its home court.

The CSU Bakersfield water polo team dropped a pair of matches Sunday to go 1-3 at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational.

No. 6 Arizona State defeated the Roadrunners 15-5 in the opener, and UC Santa Barbara followed with an 11-4 victory.

It has been a struggle this year for CSU Bakersfield’s wrestling program, but that was almost expected.

CSU Bakersfield’s baseball team has lost senior left-handed starting pitcher Jonathan Montoya for the season because of an elbow injury, coach Bill Kernen announced.

Montoya is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. The anticipated rehabilitation time for the surgery is nearly a year.

Kristine Herman scored 31 points, including a 3-pointer with 1:31 remaining, to lift CSU Bakersfield past UC Riverside 72-66 in women's basketball Wednesday night at the Icardo Center.

Herman was 10-of-20 from the field, 5-of-10 from 3-point range. The 5-foot-11 kinesiology major was one point off of her career high 32, which she achieved in 2010 against Miami, Ohio.

STOCKTON -- Stephon Carter and Tyrone White each scored 17 points as the CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team held off Pacific 76-73 on Tuesday night.

The Roadrunners (11-9) led 59-42 midway through the second half after a 3-pointer by White. But the Tigers (5-12) rallied and took the lead by a point twice in the final minutes.

A pair of upperclassmen got the CSU Bakersfield wrestling team started off on the right foot Sunday. But it took a clutch performance by a freshman during the second-to-last match of the day to ensure a 19-17 victory for the Roadrunners over Northern Colorado at the Icardo Center.

LOS ANGELES -- UC San Diego, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II, handed CSU Bakersfield a 165-97 dual meet men's swimming loss Saturday at Loyola Marymount.

CSUB freshman Mitchell Huxhold won the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.18) and 1,000 free (9:27.21). Chris Pipes won the 100 free (45.69) and was second in the 200 free (1:44.35).

Cal State Fullerton went to the boards to defeat CSU Bakersfield 67-58 in women's basketball on Saturday afternoon in the Icardo Center.

The Titans (8-8) outrebounded CSUB (3-18) 56-23, including 27-8 on the offensive glass.
