Roadrunners' defense comes up with key stops to beat Cal Poly

The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners had several key defensive stops down the stretch and held off Cal Poly 69-66 before 1,663 in the Icardo Center to snap a three-game losing streak.

SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco State snapped a 34- match losing streak dating to 1974 against CSU Bakersfield with a 20-16 win in wrestling Friday.

The Roadrunners (2-7) did not use two of their top wrestlers, 125-pound Tyler Iwamura and 133-pound Frank Lomas. But the CSUB replacements both won: Miguel Comparan beat Andrew Yu 5-3 at 125 and Jose Mendoza downed Julian Perez 10-2 at 133.

Cold-shooting CSUB falls to New Mexico St.

LAS CRUCES. N.M. -- Hot-shooting by New Mexico State combined with cold shooting by CSU Bakersfield led to a third-straight loss for the Roadrunners on Wednesday night in college basketball.

New Mexico State (16-7) made 14 of its 20 second-half shots (70 percent) and shot 55 percent for the game on the way to a 78-57 victory on its home court.

CSU Bakersfield will have live local television coverage of next Wednesday's men's basketball game at New Mexico State on Channel 45, it was announced Wednesday.

It will be the second time this season CSUB has played New Mexico State. The Aggies beat CSUB 73-72 in the Icardo Center on Jan. 2 on two free throws with nine-tenths of a second remaining.

Montoya will miss season with injury to pitching arm

CSU Bakersfield’s baseball team has lost senior left-handed starting pitcher Jonathan Montoya for the season because of an elbow injury, coach Bill Kernen announced.

Montoya is scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. The anticipated rehabilitation time for the surgery is nearly a year.

Herman was 10-of-20 from the field, 5-of-10 from 3-point range. The 5-foot-11 kinesiology major was one point off of her career high 32, which she achieved in 2010 against Miami, Ohio.

CSUB freshman Mitchell Huxhold won the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.18) and 1,000 free (9:27.21). Chris Pipes won the 100 free (45.69) and was second in the 200 free (1:44.35).

The Titans (8-8) outrebounded CSUB (3-18) 56-23, including 27-8 on the offensive glass.
