Local report: Another 'W' for Lively as Blaze rips Mavericks

ADELANTO -- Ben Lively improved to 9-1 and the Bakersfield Blaze hit five home runs in a 14-8 win over the High Desert Mavericks on Monday afternoon.

Lively pitched seven innings, allowing five runs (all earned), seven hits and zero walks while striking out seven.

ADELANTO -- The High Desert Mavericks ripped five doubles and erased a four-run deficit on the way to an 8-4 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze Sunday in a California League baseball game.

Marquez Smith had a two-run homer and Seth Methias-Brean had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI for the Blaze, which led 4-0 after four innings.

ADELANTO -- Jesse Winker hit a three-run home run and Marquez Smith hit a solo shot to help the Bakersfield Blaze beat the High Desert Mavericks 15-10 Saturday.

The Blaze had 18 hits, including three apiece by Ryan Wright, Smith and Seth Mejias-Brean.

VISALIA -- Wandy Peralta pitched seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts and only one walk to lead the Bakersfield Blaze to a 5-0 victory Thursday over the Visalia Rawhide at Recreation Park.

Peralta (5-4) allowed only two hits. He retired 12 in a row from the second through sixth innings.

Yovan Gonzalez hit a double to the gap in right-center field to drive in Kyle Waldrop in the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie Monday and the Bakersfield Blaze closed out their homestand with a 5-4 win over the High Desert Mavericks.

The victory puts Bakersfield at 34-18, four games ahead of the Rawhide in the California League's North Division heading into a critical three-game set in Visalia beginning today.

Local report: ECHL's Wranglers suspending operations

The ECHL announced on Tuesday that the Board of Governors has approved a request from the Las Vegas Wranglers for a voluntary suspension for the 2014-15 season.

The Wranglers were in informed in December that Boyd Gaming, the owner of the Orleans Arena where they had played the past 11 years, was not renewing their lease.

SEATTLE -- Seattle University damaged Cal State Bakersfield's hopes of earning the No. 2 seed in next week's Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament with a 4-2 win on Thursday to open a regular season-ending three-game series.

The loss drops Bakersfield to 23-30 overall and 14-11 in the WAC.

SEATTLE -- Utah Valley pitcher Josi Summers shut down the Cal State Bakersfield offense as the Wolverines beat Bakersfield 4-1 in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Softball Championships on Thurday.

Utah Valley (15-40) had a two-run homer by Amanda Robinson in the third, then three more singles to take a 3-0 lead. Erin Romero homered in the fourth for the Wolverines' final run.

Ben Lively pitched another gem for the Bakersfield Blaze Wednesday night but all he got was a no-decision.
Blaze closer Kyle McMyne allowed a game-tying three-run homer to Mark Shannon in the ninth inning but Bakersfield scored in the 10th to beat the Inland Empire 66ers 5-4 at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Bakersfield won it when Ryan Wright, Jesse Winkler and Kyle Waldrop hit singles, with Waldrop getting the game-winning RBI.

UC Santa Barbara broke a tie with four runs in the top of the eighth inning and went on to beat Cal State Bakersfield 7-3 Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

Alec Daily, who replaced CSUB starting pitcher Steven Gee in the seventh, struck out Robby Nesovic to open the eighth, but Nesovic reached base on a passed ball by catcher Cody White.
