ADELANTO -- Ben Lively improved to 9-1 and the Bakersfield Blaze hit five home runs in a 14-8 win over the High Desert Mavericks on Monday afternoon.

Lively pitched seven innings, allowing five runs (all earned), seven hits and zero walks while striking out seven.

The pitcher's mound is no place for an outfielder.

That is, unless you're Bakersfield native and Stockton Ports slugger Dusty Robinson and it's the 18th inning of your home opener against the Visalia Rawhide on April 10.

ADELANTO -- The High Desert Mavericks ripped five doubles and erased a four-run deficit on the way to an 8-4 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze Sunday in a California League baseball game.

Marquez Smith had a two-run homer and Seth Methias-Brean had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI for the Blaze, which led 4-0 after four innings.

VISALIA -- Wandy Peralta pitched seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts and only one walk to lead the Bakersfield Blaze to a 5-0 victory Thursday over the Visalia Rawhide at Recreation Park.

Peralta (5-4) allowed only two hits. He retired 12 in a row from the second through sixth innings.

VISALIA -- Beau Amaral's bases-loaded single in the eighth inning broke a tie and sparked the Bakersfield Blaze to a 6-4 California League win over the Visalia Rawhide on Wednesday night.

Yovan Gonzalez walked to force in an insurance run moments later.

Yovan Gonzalez hit a double to the gap in right-center field to drive in Kyle Waldrop in the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie Monday and the Bakersfield Blaze closed out their homestand with a 5-4 win over the High Desert Mavericks.

The victory puts Bakersfield at 34-18, four games ahead of the Rawhide in the California League's North Division heading into a critical three-game set in Visalia beginning today.

Pitcher Min-Sih Chen allowed only two hits in six innings of work as the High Desert Mavericks beat the Blaze 8-1 Saturday at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Chen (2-2) allowed one earned run. He struck out one and walked two.

Seth Mejias-Brean hit two home runs, and the Bakersfield Blaze offense was dominant from the start Friday in a 12-8 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Bakersfield scored five first-inning runs and never looked back.

David Vidal had two of Bakersfield's 13 hits, including a three-run homer, to help the Blaze to an 8-2 victory Thursday over the Lancaster JetHawks at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Winning pitcher Mike Dennhardt (3-2) allowed five hits and two earned runs in five innings. He struck out two. Beau Amaral had two hits and two runs, and Marquez Smith had two hits and two RBIs for the Blaze, which also had two hits apiece from Kyle Waldrop, Seth Mejias-Brean and Juan Perez.

The ECHL announced on Tuesday that the Board of Governors has approved a request from the Las Vegas Wranglers for a voluntary suspension for the 2014-15 season.

The Wranglers were in informed in December that Boyd Gaming, the owner of the Orleans Arena where they had played the past 11 years, was not renewing their lease.

Ben Lively limited Stockton to a run on five hits in seven innings to lead the Bakersfield Blaze to a 9-5 victory over the Ports on Sunday in Stockton.

Lively (7-1) walked two and had four strikeouts.

SEATTLE -- Seattle University damaged Cal State Bakersfield's hopes of earning the No. 2 seed in next week's Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament with a 4-2 win on Thursday to open a regular season-ending three-game series.

The loss drops Bakersfield to 23-30 overall and 14-11 in the WAC.

SEATTLE -- Cal State Bakersfield's softball season ended Friday with a 2-1 loss to Seattle University at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Roadrunners finish 15-40. They went 0-2 in the double-elimination WAC Tournament.

SEATTLE -- Utah Valley pitcher Josi Summers shut down the Cal State Bakersfield offense as the Wolverines beat Bakersfield 4-1 in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Softball Championships on Thurday.

Utah Valley (15-40) had a two-run homer by Amanda Robinson in the third, then three more singles to take a 3-0 lead. Erin Romero homered in the fourth for the Wolverines' final run.

Ben Lively pitched another gem for the Bakersfield Blaze Wednesday night but all he got was a no-decision.
Blaze closer Kyle McMyne allowed a game-tying three-run homer to Mark Shannon in the ninth inning but Bakersfield scored in the 10th to beat the Inland Empire 66ers 5-4 at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Bakersfield won it when Ryan Wright, Jesse Winkler and Kyle Waldrop hit singles, with Waldrop getting the game-winning RBI.

UC Santa Barbara broke a tie with four runs in the top of the eighth inning and went on to beat Cal State Bakersfield 7-3 Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

Alec Daily, who replaced CSUB starting pitcher Steven Gee in the seventh, struck out Robby Nesovic to open the eighth, but Nesovic reached base on a passed ball by catcher Cody White.

Ed Lively, 53, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., would like a lot LESS cowbell.
