Steve Merlo: Great dove season on tap, if the weather holds up

Fri, 08/27/2010 - 05:52

With thousands and thousands of local doves lolling around on telephone wires, orchards, rooftops and grain fields, hunters could be in for one of the better openers when the season opens Wednesday, September 1st. However, with a cold front looming just a few days before, the majority of birds are apt to hightail it south and leave the area, where the prognosis might then be dismal. Fortunately, there are always a few birds around to keep the ammunition manufacturers in business, even when the main body ups and leaves, like they have done for four out of the past five years.

Each year, there seems to be some confusion regarding some of the laws pertaining to dove hunting, so I'll try to clear some of them up. It seems that my e-mails are always filled with the same questions, so I'll try to answer the most asked queries to the best of my ability and knowledge.
